Yesterday I volunteered at the Tee it Up for the Troops Golf Tournament, held at Bunker Hills Golf Course in Coon Rapids. I can honestly say this has been one of my favorite appearances I have ever done. The whole event was just so uplifting. The day started with check in at 10am where I sold Mulligan Cards and each team member got their free pair of Sundog sunglasses and a goody bag. Each team had a celebrity golfer. The celebrity golfers consisted of athletes, television personalities, and soldiers. After the teams checked in they had lunch and opening ceremonies started at noon. I got very emotional during the opening ceremonies. They put on a great show with many amazing performances, a moment of silence for the fallen soldiers, as well as bag pipe and bugle performances, and a 21 gun salute. Then the teams were off to start their golf scramble. I have never seen so many golf carts! It was clear that everyone in attendance was there for two reasons. One, to raise money for our troops and two, to have a day full of fun. I, myself, had an amazing time driving golf carts and Military Hummers, learning more about golf, and meeting such generous and entertaining people. The highlight of my day was taking team photos with Purple Heart soldier, Pat Mariakis, and my Junior Royalty little sister, Natalie Berg. We ended this wonderful event with a silent auction and a delicious dinner. During dinner the teams found out how they placed in the day’s tournament, learned more about Tee it Up for the Troops, and watched a slide show made up of all the pictures that were taken that day. I had such a great time I didn’t leave until 9pm. What a day!
