For starters, Happy Mother’s Day to all mothers! I have been beyond blessed with the most caring and amazing mom! She supports me through everything I do and I know I wouldn’t be the woman I am today without her guidance. My mom is my hero and I admire her very much.
On that note I want to take some time to recognize a mom who doesn’t get enough praise for all she had accomplished; my sister. I wrote an opinion editorial article for the Star Tribune recognizing mothers who are also domestic violence survivors, like my sister. In all honesty I had done all of this a little last minute and submitted my article only 2 days ago. I didn’t think it would get published by Mother’s Day, but to my surprise the editor contacted me immediately. He said because domestic violence is such a trending topic in the news he was going to run my article the next day so it would be out in time for Mother’s Day! I was beyond excited to see my article in the paper yesterday and to know that I was able to get my sister that much more encouragement and support. I was also pleased to see all of the conversations that were created because of my article.
Below is the link to my article for those of you who may have missed it in the paper and want to check it out. Also my national partner, NO MORE, posted the article on their website too!
I wish all mothers a marvelous and memorable Mother’s Day!
Until next time,
Samantha Phillippi
