I spent my morning at Sand Creek Elementary School in Coon Rapids. I introduced Dance this Weigh to four second grade classrooms. I connected with over 80 second graders. They had to have been the best group of listeners ever. Each student was so involved and eager to learn.
I spent my afternoon at the Coon Rapids Senior Center. There was a special event going on to thank senior for volunteering in the community. It was Olympic themed with a lot of entertainment, including a very create synchronized swimming skit. I was invited to speak about my platform and perform. It was wonderful to remind these senior citizens that everyone plays a role in teaching children how to live a healthy life. Their role is being a positive role model for today’s youth. I love every opportunity I get to perform; I performed the talent that I did for the Miss Coon Rapids Pageant this year. It was a great turn out with over 200 seniors in attendance. I loved talking with the seniors; they all had such uplifting and positive things to say.
Lastly, I ended my day by teaching adaptive swimming lessons for children with special needs. I volunteered as an instructor throughout high school; and I am so excited to join them again.
Until next time,
Samantha Phillippi
