Today I volunteered at the third annual Project Family Connect. This is a one-stop-shop event that includes access to services and resources, free food, clothing and basic need items for community members. I served community members at the Tubman table with Anna, a Tubman employee who teaches teens about dating violence. Tubman serves so many people all over that we had one woman come over and shake our hands and thanked us for what we do. She said that Tubman kept her daughter safe awhile back and because of their services she is alive and safe today.
This was a very successful year. It was announced that they surpassed the number of people that attended last year; we had so many people stop by our table that we almost ran out of hand outs. Last year I volunteered at this event and consulted families how to live a healthy life. A lot of the same vendors and volunteers came back this year and it was great to see them again and catch up. I always enjoy serving at these events because I feel it is the best way to create awareness and give something back to our community.
Until next time,
Samantha Phillippi
