Happy Veteran’s Day everyone. Thank you to all veterans who have served and are still serving our country. Thank you for fighting for our country’s honor and for making it a safer place for all of us to live.
It has been a busy last week for me so this blog is somewhat of an overview on what I have done as Miss Coon Rapids this week. Last Saturday was the Miss Coon Rapids Style Show hosted at the Coon Rapids American Legion. The Miss Coon Rapids Style Show is a fundraiser where the Miss Coon Rapids contestants, volunteers, and I model fashions from the Dress Barn and Maurice’s. My grandma Mary was one of the volunteer guest models. Before the fashion show everyone enjoyed an all you can eat breakfast and there was time to bid on the silent auction baskets. All of the money raised from this event goes directly back to the Miss Coon Rapids Scholarship Organization. This event brings in the majority of the funds needed to make this organization a success.
This year we will also be crowning a Miss Coon Rapids Outstanding Teen. I am excited to announce that we will be crowning Kathryn Kueppers as our teen! I have known Kathryn for the past three years; she is one of the sweetest girls I have ever met and I am honored to be her sister queen for a month.
Immediately following the Style Show was our first rehearsal for the Miss Coon Rapids Pageant. All of the girls picked up on the steps and information so quickly that rehearsal flew by! Rehearsals always get me pumped for the pageant.
After the rehearsal my mom, grandma, and I drove down to Mankato for the Miss Mankato Pageant. In 2010 I competed in my very first pageant and was crowned Miss Mankato. The directors, Shelly Bartlett and Paul Finocchiaro, taught me everything I needed to know to be a successful title holder. I promised myself that I would attend every Miss Mankato pageant but unfortunately once we had made the long drive down to Mankato I became violently ill and was not able to attend the pageant. Congratulations to the new Miss Mankato 2013, Gabrielle Chavers.
Wednesday night was our second Miss Coon Rapids rehearsal. There are four contestants competing for the title of Miss Coon Rapids. Three out of the four contestants were able to attend the first rehearsal and the second rehearsal became catch up for the fourth contestant because she was the only contestant able to attend that rehearsal. It has been wonderful getting to know each contestant; each of them would make a marvelous Miss Coon Rapids.
I only have a week left as Miss Coon Rapids. Where has the time gone? We have one final night of rehearsal this Wednesday night before the pageant on Saturday. I sure hope to see everyone supporting this great organization by attending the pageant. The Miss Coon Rapids Pageant will be held on Saturday, November 17th at the Anoka-Ramsey Community College starting at 7pm.
Until next time,
Samantha Phillippi
