Last night was the Miss Coon Rapids Pageant. My day started early with moving into the theatre and having an interview to warm up the judges. All of the judges were so wonderful and kind that all of the contestants had great interviews! I took a picture with each girl after they completed their interview. Once the interviews were over, and after we had our pizza lunch, we spent the day rehearsing for the pageant.
Before anyone knew it was 7pm and time for the pageant to start. I was honored to sing the National Anthem. After I sang we all performed in the opening number and then the four contestants competed in Lifestyle and Fitness, Talent, On Stage Question, and Evening Gown. There were special performances by Miss Minnesota, Siri Freeh, and Miss Minnesota’s Outstanding teen, Bailey Wachholtz. When it came time for me to perform I chose to do something completely different; I sang “One Upon a December” from the animated film Anastasia. I have always wanted to sing for talent so I thought it would be perfect for my farewell. Before we crowned the new Miss Coon Rapids I read my farewell and took my last walk as Miss Coon Rapids 2012.
A very special congratulations to Emily Kallis our Miss Coon Rapids 2013 and to Kathryn Kueppers our Miss Coon Rapids 2013! You both are such amazing and sweet women and I know you both are going to be marvelous title holders. Congratulations to Katie Bornecke who won the evening gown award, to Kami Patrin who won the Community Service Award, and to Paris Becker who tied with Emily for the talent award. Emily also won best interview and the Beaurline Family Communication Scholarship.
After crowning our new Miss Coon Rapids it was great to be able to catch up with all of my Miss Minnesota friends and Junior Royalty sisters. The saddest part of my night was when my Junior Royalty little sister, Natalie, was sobbing because she thought she was never going to see me again. I pinky promised she would and gave her many hugs… It was heart breaking!
To end the evening we all went to TGI Fridays for dinner. Fridays closes off half of the entire restaurant for the Miss Coon Rapids after party and everyone comes to eat, socialize, and celebrate. This was the perfect way to end the night and to end my nine and a half month rein as Miss Coon Rapids. Thank you to everyone who helped make this pageant a success (especially Sue, John, Marcy, Tom, Terry, Jeff, Megan, Diane, and Theresa). I look forward to seeing all of the good Emily and Kathryn will do in the community of Coon Rapids.
Until next time,
Samantha Phillippi
