Happy hump day everyone! There is a new GEICO commercial that makes me laugh so hard. It is the “happier than a camel on a Wednesday” one and ever since I have seen it I swear my Wednesdays just seem better.
Today, I volunteered at 54th Annual Gillette Children’s Hospital Firefighters Fair. I volunteered to do face painting with this really talented face painter but after seeing her work I knew my face painting skills couldn’t compare to hers I decided to do crowd control. I talked with the kids in line, took pictures and signed autographs. I love seeing kids that I visit each week when I am dressed up as Miss Minneapolis, they get so excited because usually they have no idea the friend they see each week is a real princess. It was also fun to see Rebecca Yeh, our new Miss MN, and Heather Erickson, Miss Brainerd Lakes, who is also a Gillette weekly volunteer. Before I left I watched the crowning of the fair king and queen. April, a sweet girl I see each week, won the fair queen title and I couldn’t be more excited for her. Very well deserved!
After the fair my mom and I drove through the worst rush hour and event traffic to get to the Minneapolis Aquatennial celebration. We had such an amazing night at the Centerpoint Energy Torchlight Parade VIP Tent. The torchlight Parade is the largest parade in Minnesota and tonight was the 74th anniversary. I was honored to be one of the local celebrities and had the best parade experience with Centerpoint Energy as our host. Our seats were right by the judges so we were able to watch the best performances from each float and band. Before the parade we were treated to dinner also hosted by Centerpoint Energy, while there I had the opportunity to meet Jason DeRusha and Jamie Yuccas from WCCO's Morning Show. I had a blast walking the streets of Minneapolis and meeting many fun people and families.
Until next time,
Samantha Phillippi
