When I was high school I joined my school’s DECA program. I learned a lot about business and public speaking through taking these courses and competing in DECA events. One of my favorite memories from high school was going to compete at the DECA State Conference.
Today, I spent my day as a DECA State judge. I interviewed contestants, judged their interviews, and recorded their score sheets for the Employment Interview section of DECA State Competition. Each interview was 10 minutes long, a lot like our Miss America interviews. In the end, I sent two of my contestants on to State Finals on Tuesday.
It was so much fun going back to a place that I had made such found memories years ago. I have always been impressed with the caliber of the students who are in the DECA program and still to this day they are the most articulate and professional teenagers I have ever met.
Until next time,
Samantha Phillippi
