What an amazing experience it was to compete for the Miss Coon Rapids Pageant. So much went into making that pageant a success and there were so many people who volunteered their time to make it such a great pageant. I competed with four other girls who were all so kind and talented and I really enjoyed getting to know each of them! Leading up to the pageant we were able to make a few appearances as contestants; such as bagging groceries at the Coon Rapids Cub Foods, or the fabulous 50s Sock Hop dance Epiphany Church. We really had the chance to get to know one and other during our rehearsals preparing for the pageant. It was such an amazing journey leading up to the crowning moment and I am looking forward to a wonderful year representing such a great community.
I was so blessed to not only have been crowned Miss Coon Rapids but also to have been the recipient of the new Evening Gown Award donated by Megan Ehlert in honor of her grandfather. It was very sweet to hear she chose that category because evening gown was her grandpa’s favorite part of the pageant to watch.
After being crown I took pictures with all of my family and friends, with my favorite moment being when my dear friend Mary Petersen ran up to give me a hug and almost knocked my crown right off of my head. Mary and I have become very close friends over the past year and saw each other at least once a week during the summer. You know you have a true friend when she is just as excited about you being crowned as you are and nearly tackles you to the ground with excitement! Thank you for being such a great and dear friend Mary!
Once pictures were over I was interviewed for the local Coon Rapids newspaper, The Herald. Then we packed up all of my things and rushed to the Coon Rapids Fridays for the after party. This was when I got the opportunity to socialize with everyone who attended the pageant. Highlight of the after party was meeting the Mayor of Coon Rapids, Tim Howe. He was very kind and gave me a Coon Rapids Pin, which looks marvelous on my new sash!
Again I would like to thank all of my family and friends for their constant support. It means the world to me to always have such a large cheering section wherever I am. Thank you to the Coon Rapids community for immediately welcoming me and making me feel like family, I am ecstatic to spend my next year serving all of you!
Sincerely,
Samantha Phillippi
